Laura Garlow, DVM

Professional Services Veterinarian,
North Carolina (NC, SC, VA)

A lifelong resident of North Carolina, Dr. Garlow has spent nearly her entire life in the Tar Heel State, with the exception of her undergraduate years at the University of Virginia. She recognized her calling to veterinary medicine in the first grade, and her passion has remained steadfast. After studying Biology and Bioethics at UVA, she returned to North Carolina to attend North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, Dr. Garlow completed a rotating small animal internship at BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital in Cary, North Carolina, to further refine her clinical skills and expertise.

Dr. Garlow remained after her internship to establish a unique clinical hospitalist position, and subsequently advanced to the role of Chief of Service for Internal Medicine. During her time at BluePearl, she developed a profound appreciation for the importance of strong client communication skills and cultivated a passion for mentoring others in the field.

In 2021, she transitioned to serve as the Mentorship Program Director for a national corporate veterinary group. Her responsibilities expanded as she became the Director of DVM Development, where she led initiatives in leadership and clinical development while further enhancing mentorship programs. Dr. Garlow found her collaborations with hospital leadership teams and her efforts to empower their growth and success particularly fulfilling. She was drawn to Merck Animal Health by the opportunity to extend this impactful work on an even larger scale, as well as by the company’s unique combination of innovation and integrity.

“The veterinary profession is full of wonderful people, and I am grateful for the opportunity to join Merck in a role that combines my passion for continuous learning with the opportunity to form genuine connections with so many dedicated veterinary professionals.”

Outside of work, Dr. Garlow enjoys spending time with her husband, two young sons, and their pets—a Goldendoodle named Bogey and a Siamese cat named Gatsby. Although she expresses some mild chagrin over owning a doodle as a veterinarian, she cannot help but love their goofy and good-natured personalities.  Dr. Garlow is an avid reader and member of multiple book clubs. As such, she can often be found engrossed in a book or walking the dog while listening to an audiobook.
