Merck Animal Health’s Leg Up Program is designed to empower veterinary support staff specializing in equine practice. While the program does not emphasize technical skills specific to equine medicine, it will equip participants with the knowledge and strategies needed to foster a healthy practice culture and maximize their utility in practice. We are dedicated to enhancing the personal and professional qualities that contribute to the sustainability and well-being of the equine team.

Each cohort of the Leg Up Program comprises 25-30 dedicated veterinary support staff who come together for a transformative learning experience. Throughout the program, participants engage in a comprehensive curriculum consisting of four 90-minute online modules and three 60-minute Cohort Connect meetings, which serve as essential networking and support opportunities.

Key areas of focus within the curriculum include:

• Personal Growth: Participants will have the opportunity to explore their personal strengths, values, and goals. By emphasizing self-awareness and self-care, the program aims to empower veterinary technicians to overcome challenges and thrive in their careers.
• Professional Development: The program provides insights and tools for enhancing communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. It equips participants with the knowledge and strategies needed to foster a healthy practice culture and maintain high standards of patient care.
• Mental and Emotional Well-being: The Leg Up Program acknowledges the emotional demands of equine practice and offers guidance on managing stress, building resilience, and maintaining a work-life balance.
• Peer Support and Networking: The Cohort Connect meetings provide a platform for participants to build meaningful connections with fellow veterinary technicians, share experiences, and offer mutual support. These interactions can be instrumental in fostering a sense of community and belonging.
